Vermont Jury Orders Mass. Man to Pay $35 Million

A Vermont jury has ordered a Massachusetts man to pay $35 million in a child sex abuse case.

The jury reached the verdict Friday against Scott Isaacson of Hyannis, Mass., for allegations of repeated sexual abuse of a girl when she was between 3 and 9 years old. Lawyers say some of those incidents of abuse occurred in Vermont, when Isaacson brought the girl here on ski trips. That allowed the plaintiff to sue in Vermont. She is now 24. Her lawyer, Jerry O’Neill, says he expects to recover only a small fraction of the huge jury award, because Isaacson has few assets.

Isaacson was also convicted of criminal charges in Massachusetts.
