The NH Union Leader reports that a convicted sex offender from Massachusetts has been indicted for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl while she was alone in a toy aisle at Walmart in Plaistow, according to prosecutors.
Ronald Beausoleil, 33, of Haverhill, Mass., is facing charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault, two counts of felonious sexual assault and accomplice to theft by unauthorized taking in connection with the March 10 incident.
Beausoleil, who is being held at the Rockingham County jail, will be arraigned on the charges later this month in superior court.
Police say that Beausoleil grabbed the girl’s genital area in the toy department while the girl’s parent had lost sight of her for a moment.
Beausoleil was arrested the night after the alleged attack by Deputy Matthew Caracciolo, who found Beausoleil sitting in his pickup truck outside the store.
The Union Leader reports that the theft charge alleges that Beausoleil helped a woman steal a number of children’s items on the day of the assault. He aided a woman named Sara Neddo “by placing merchandise that included sheets, games, a download card and a jack” into a stroller, prosecutors said.
He was also charged with driving after his license was suspended.
Salem police charged Beausoleil with indecent exposure last month for a similar incident at a Walmart in their town, which happened Sept. 19, 2011.
The Salem case was unsolved and police had no solid suspects until Beausoleil’s arrest in March.
Salem police Sgt. Thomas Kench and Detective Michael White thought a photo of Beausoleil from a security camera at Walmart in Plaistow closely resembled the unidentified suspect from their unsolved case.
Police were able to put together a photo lineup with the help of a criminal information analyst at the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry.
The victim and an adult witness in the 2011 case were able to identify Beausoleil as the suspect, police said.
Beausoleil is listed as a Level 3 offender with the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry. He has a 1999 conviction for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age. In 2007, he was convicted of attempted open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior.
